personal information of our applicants, customers and former customers. Please be
aware that we may change this policy periodically.
Information We May Collect
We limit the collection, retention and use of individual customer information to
the minimum amount required to deliver useful products and services and other opportunities
to customers and to fulfill our business needs. We may collect nonpublic personal
information about you from different sources. For example, when you inquire of us
or apply to us in writing, on the phone, by e-mail or from our website, we may collect
information about you, such as your assets, income and social security number, from
applications or other forms. We collect information about our customers through
your transactions with us, with our affiliates, or with others, which may include
account balances, payment history, and parties to transactions. We also collect
information from credit bureaus, including your credit history and creditworthiness.
We may receive information from other sources such as providers of marketing and
demographic data.
Use of Consumer Information
We may use the information we collect to provide you with products or services you
have requested, to improve our marketing and promotional efforts, to statistically
analyze customer use of our products and services, to improve our offerings, to
contact you regarding information we believe may be useful to you, to comply with
reporting or other legal requirements, and to otherwise conduct business. We believe
these uses allow us to improve our services and better tailor them to meet your
needs.

Unless you instruct us otherwise, we may also share with our affiliated companies
the other information that we collect about you as described under the heading “Information
We May Collect” above (such as information from consumer credit reports or income
and assets information from applications). We may do this to provide you with information
about other products or services we offer that may interest you.
Information We May Share to Service Your Account
In order to establish, administer and manage our customers’ accounts, to provide
customer service and benefits, to process account transactions and account statements,
and to conduct research and analysis, we may disclose information described under
the heading “Information We May Collect” to companies that work with us, including
some of our UMS affiliates*, to perform services or business operations on our behalf.
We may also share this information with companies that perform marketing services
on our behalf or other financial institutions with which we have joint marketing
agreements. Please be aware that these disclosures are permitted by law without
your consent, and therefore the opt out choices described below will not apply to
these types of disclosures.
Information We May Share With Other Third Parties
In certain instances, we are permitted or even required to provide information about
you to third parties not affiliated with us. Examples of this type of permitted
disclosure would include reporting information about your transactions with us to
credit reporting agencies, responding to regulators or auditors or other legal disclosure
requirements, and protecting against fraud or providing information in connection
with proposed or actual business transactions involving our companies or accounts,
such as mergers or portfolio sales. Additional examples are advising a creditor
the status of your credit application with us, responding to prior or subsequent
lenders or holders with respect to your related documents, releasing information
and making inquiries to the persons you have listed on your credit application as
references, for the purposes of learning your current address and telephone number,
and checking your credit and employment history and asking these lenders and/or
employers about their credit experience with you. Please be aware that these disclosures
are permitted by law without your consent, and therefore the opt out choices described
below will not apply to these types of disclosures.
Unless you instruct us otherwise, we may share all the information described under

who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain
physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations
to guard your nonpublic personal information.
